There is an obvious lack of transgender visibility in the media. With my photographic series, Through Tired Eyes, I seek to represent the trans community in an intimate and vulnerable way. I want to leave my models feeling seen and empowered. I chose to photograph my models in their bedrooms, as it is a space made for safety and relaxation. The bedroom is a space where we are able to be our most authentic selves; a space where we are able to freely express how we feel. In the comfort of our own bedrooms, we see the deepest sides of ourselves. This is where we begin our journey to find out who we truly are. Our bedrooms are a space free of judgement from the rest of the world. We each begin a journey to better understand ourselves in the comfort of our bedrooms--and members of the trans community are no exception. For trans people, the bedroom can mean a comfortable space to begin exploring their gender identity. A sanctuary for self expression. Bedrooms are a space that can hold our secrets when we believe they are too big for the world to handle. It is a place for growth, change, and new understandings.
Traveling and capturing beauty, culture and diversity is the main goal with my portraits of strangers.
